A Journey Sparked by Friendship
Japhet’s introduction to Social Mining came through a familiar source: a close friend and colleague. In 2018, Japhet and his colleague, Azraiel, were exploring the world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, discussing plans to attend a boot camp on crypto trading. However, life took a different turn when Azraiel left their workplace, and the two friends lost touch.
Fast forward to early 2024, Japhet reconnected with Azraiel through his mother.

What had once been an abstract interest in cryptocurrencies now became a tangible opportunity to contribute to the decentralized ecosystem, interact with a global community, and acquire new skills.
The Impact of Social Mining
Despite the demanding nature of his government job, Japhet found a new way to approach productivity and personal growth through Social Mining. He explained how it helped sharpen his focus and time management skills.
"Social Mining has had a significant impact on both my work and personal development in government," Japhet explained. "It has helped me prioritize tasks more effectively, allowing me to focus on what truly matters while setting aside distractions."
He has learned to apply the discipline and organization he’s developed through Social Mining to his daily work as well, improving his overall approach to balancing his professional responsibilities.
"I feel that Social Mining has helped me sharpen my communication skills and time management," he said. "It's been a valuable learning experience, one that complements my Government work."
Making His Mark in Social Mining
In the world of Social Mining, Japhet’s contributions have earned him significant recognition. His hard work and dedication to the community are evident through his achievements, many of which have ranked him among the top participants in various projects.
Some of his standout accomplishments include:
- TON: The TON Hot Highlights – Japhet’s contribution to this project earned him 341 points and 0.1 reputation, ranking him among the top 10 participants. His insights and ability to distil complex information into accessible content helped make his submission a success.
- KAVA: KAVA RISE Overview Infographics Task – In this task, he created a comprehensive set of infographics that explained the key elements of the KAVA RISE project. His effort earned him 400 points, 0.05 reputation, and a spot in the top 10 contributors.
- POLYGON: Union Introduces Cosmos to the Polygon AggLayer – One of Japhet’s most recognized submissions, this project earned him 579 points and 0.05 reputation. His work on explaining how Union integrates Cosmos into the Polygon AggLayer was widely appreciated, marking it as one of the best submissions.
“These accomplishments were challenging yet rewarding,” Japhet said. "I'm grateful for my Social Mining job because it allows me to balance my Government work efforts, especially during weekends when I have more free time."
Explaining Social Mining to Colleagues
Japhet has introduced Social Mining to his colleagues, many of whom were intrigued by its potential. While the idea has intrigued many of them, there are certain challenges that prevent widespread participation.
"When I introduced Social Mining to my colleagues, they were amazed by the potential it offers, especially the idea of rewarding community engagement and contributions," Japhet explained.
However, as is the case for many in the Philippines, access to necessary resources such as laptops or computers, coupled with unreliable internet connections, posed a significant barrier. "A major challenge they pointed out was the lack of proper tools and internet stability. Without these, participating in Social Mining becomes difficult," Japhet said.
Despite these hurdles, Japhet remains optimistic about the future, hoping that technological advancements will make Social Mining more accessible to a wider audience in his country. "Poor internet can definitely be a drag, but I hope we can find ways to make Social Mining more accessible for everyone," he added.
His Vision for Blockchain and Public Service
As Japhet continues to grow in the Social Mining space, he envisions a future where he can balance both his career in government and his passion for blockchain.
"I see a future where I can successfully balance my government career and my passion for Social Mining," he said. "The stability and security of tenure in my government position are invaluable, but I’m equally committed to exploring the opportunities in blockchain."
