Empowering Filipinos with remote jobs: A Social Mining case study

In the rapidly evolving landscape of remote work and digital platforms, Social Mining has emerged as a transformative concept, empowering individuals to earn income and connect with a global community through their online activities. An important case study is represented by the Philippines.

In May 2023, DAO Labs placed its trust in one of the most active communities, such as the Pinoy one, allocating a modest budget to the Pinoy admins, igniting a remarkable growth in visibility, awareness, and user participation in the Social Mining platform within the Philippines.

Taking advantage of the extensive reach of these mediums, a group of Filipino miners created a social media array.  First, they launched a Facebook page, a platform widely used in the country, to promote Social Mining  by organising engaging events aimed at attracting new potential users. Through the campaigns, they highlighted the benefits and earning opportunities of Social Mining, positioning it as a viable remote work option, a side hustle, and even a first job opportunity for economically independent students. Focusing on activities and points acquired on platforms like DAOVERSE and Polygon Hub, the admins of the Facebook page successfully attracted so far 65 new miners to the Social Mining platforms in just a few months, from May to July.

The achievements of the Filipino admins are commendable, reflecting their creativity, commitment, dedication, and effective promotion strategies. Their efforts have not only expanded the reach of Social Mining, but have also showcased its potential to a wider audience across the country. By increasing the number of active users, they aim to spread awareness of Social Mining and encourage Filipinos to take part in the available tasks and activities on all the active Social Mining platforms.

The efforts of the Filipino admins are indicative of the transformative power this concept holds. By embracing remote collaboration and jobs and leveraging Social Media handles and digital platforms, Social Mining has the potential to revolutionize the traditional job market, offering inclusive opportunities and economic empowerment to individuals across various demographics.

As we celebrate the achievements of the Pinoy miners and their commitment to driving Social Mining's growth, we recognize the importance of their creativity and dedication in bringing about positive change. The impact they have made within a short period is a testament to the potential of Social Mining to reshape the way people work and earn in the Philippines. It is obviously crucial to continue supporting the efforts of these admins and encouraging the adoption of Social Mining as a means of empowerment and economic independence.

Through user base expansion and fostering active engagement, the Pinoy community can amplify the reach of Social Mining, enabling more individuals to benefit from this innovative concept. Now the goal is not only to increase more and more the numbers of new users in the platforms, but above all to make all the new users constantly active and always more attracted to the project and its activities in the long run.

For this reason, Pinoy admins are also managing physical events, seminars and AMA to promote this concept to individuals. Amidst this wave of success, one special new user stands out, Erlyn Joy, a passionate teacher who recognizes the potential of Social Mining as a 21st-century job opportunity. This educator is actively working towards integrating Social Mining into the school curriculum, ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital economy. By advocating for Social Mining's inclusion in educational activities, this teacher is striving to empower students, providing them with new avenues for economic independence and a better future. Her attitude, commitment and dedication led her to become, in very little time, one of the admins of the Pinoy community, together with -Telegram AKA- Azraiel and beautyqueenamara, who every day demonstrate their talent and dedication to the project.

We have recently dedicated an episode of the Social Miner of the Hour to our passionate Daoversian teacher ErlynJoy, who told us in the interview what does being a teacher mean, the challenge students and individuals in general need to face nowadays in the Philippines and how Social Mining can actually be an ally. Let’s dig into it…

Would you like to introduce yourself to the community? We know you are a teacher yourself, one of the most important professions in society. What does it mean to be a teacher, today?

“My name is Erlyn Joy also known as ErlynYoj or TechaAJoy on Twitter. I'm from the Land called Asia's Pearl of the Orient, the Philippines! I'm a government school teacher here in my own country, and teaching has always been my passion ever since. I'm a talkative person and love to conquer challenges! Teaching is indeed a noble profession in society. For me, being a teacher especially nowadays requires a lot of love, not just to your job but to your students as well. You need to teach them a life-long learning for them to be prepared for the real world. Being a teacher means that you are God's instrument to change and mold lives!”

What do you think of Social Mining AND teaching? Are they related? If so, how?

“I guess, yes, in some way or another. Because in teaching, you change lives through guiding students, by telling them what's good and what's bad, by letting them face consequences of their actions and any other. On the other hand, same with social mining, you are also changing lives in a way this job couldn't imagine. It is a win-win solution from the company and the social miners or Social Miners and the community as well. Same with teaching, a win-win approach between Teachers and students or should I say, teachers and the society.”

Correct me if I'm wrong, but maybe the most important thing to teach to people is how to make a living. Nature of work has changed, how do you approach that, the 21st Century Jobs, in your classes?

“I totally agree with Ms. Irene. As a matter of fact, I am bringing Social Mining in school right now because I can see the demands of people nowadays, especially in my own country. There's a lot of Blue-collar jobs here and my heart is crying for all the workers under blue collar jobs for they take the risk just for them to sustain their family. And this is a thing I don't want my students to experience. I don't want them to be behind in the world! I want them to learn to face life and earn money even if they are still studying, that they have to compete to the world by engaging themselves into a 21st Century jobs and to be tech-savvy and used their own skills to earn money and not just open their palm always and ask penny from their parents´pocket. In line with this, I found a great idea when I joined this community, and that was, to introduce social mining to all my students!”

Are there any concrete chances to make Social Mining part of the education at school from your point of view?

“Well, I believe Ms. Irene that this must not just be a part of the education at school but also a Part of their Lives as individuals, as well.

Social Mining is a great tool, a way and opportunity for them not just to equip themselves in what's happening around the globe but also their way to become the successful individuals they want them to be!”

In a very short time, you became an admin of your LangChat, congratulations! What does it mean for you and what are your goals in the future for the Pinoy community?

“Actually, I am not broadcasting it, since up to now, I cannot really process in my mind the goodness of God to me and for His mercy. But, thanks for those warm greetings!

I've been here for more than a month only, when I entered DAO Labs, it was a call of shots for me. I have to condition my mind on how I will utilize my Time management since I am working full-time as well, but I am so passionate not just for teaching but being a social Miner too, that's since day one! I never thought of any promotions, all I just want is to learn and earn! But because of the love that I have for my students, I extend Social Mining to them because that is what I believe I can help them, that time, all I just want is to help.

But you know, our admin Amara from the Philippines and her associate Azraiel, as well as the DAO Labs core team saw all of this, and promoted me immediately as an Admin! That was a blessing indeed! Fast promotion for me! But as I understand, God put me in this role for me to help spread the blessing! To share God's gift to my community through social mining!  My goals for the future of my Pinoy community are just so simple, to stand with dignity while bringing the pride and honour of our flag that represents our community, and we will hit the floor here in this Social Mining Journey!”

In conclusion, the case study of Social Mining in the Philippines demonstrates the transformative power of digital platforms and online collaboration. Through the dedication and initiatives of Filipino admins, Social Mining is gaining significant traction from new users and generating awareness about its potential to shape individuals' destiny and revolutionize the concept of work in the 21st century. We are aware this is still a starting point and we believe that other communities involved in the project can apply this model to make Social Mining widespread all over the world.
