If you ask around about who the globally recognized Crypto Trailblazers are in the tech field of Blockchain, many people will undoubtedly point at Emin Gün Sirer.
Today, we would like to share a brief list of facts about him and his science achievements. Let's look at his journey, leading up to becoming the founder and CEO of one of the top 20 projects on Market Cap, Avalanche, which has brought him to become one of the most respected names in the Blockchain World.
EGS was born in 1971 as an intelligent child of a modest Turkish family. His intelligence, work and discipline led to his acceptance to Robert College, the second school for the brightest students in his Country, and then to Princeton University, USA, as a scholarship student.
His interest in computer technologies, which started during high school, continued after Princeton with graduate and doctoral studies at the University of Washington. He then continued his academic career as an Associate Professor and Professor at Cornell University in the fields of Operating Systems and Distributed Peer-to-Peer Digital Currencies.
E. Gün Sirer is considered one of the fathers of Blockchain. His passion for this Technology made him contribute to the development of the Industry with some remarkable findings to date.
- Among his most notable works is the introduction of KARMA, the first digital currency for peer-to-peer distributed systems in 2003, five years before Satoshi Nakamoto's White Paper of Bitcoin would be public.
- In 2007, EGS found that hackers could use a gap in the FBI's data flow maliciously because of the nature of the Internet. Later that year, he was named amongst the 10 Most Influential Scientists.
- The Avalanche Consensus Protocol, developed with the “Team Rocket” in 2018 as a solution to scalability and security problems in distributed systems, has been a very important turning point in the life of Team Rocket, which consists of Sirer's doctoral students Maofan Ted Yin and Kevin Sekniqi. Today, Emin Gün Sirer and the Rocket team are the founders of Avalanche, one of the most ambitious and remarkable network projects in the Crypto market.
- EGS also served as the co-director of the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Contracts (IC3) at Cornell University. This research group focuses on finding solutions for Blockchain problems to make Web 3.0 available for everyone.
The Avalanche Legacy
The Avalanche AVAX project uses DAO Labs' Social Mining SAAS. Emin Gün Sirer and his team have given their community great importance from the beginning, starting with launching community-building efforts even during the testing stages.
Today, the Avalanche community has become a vast movement that closely follows the project on social media, especially X (FKA Twitter).
The first core of Avalanche Hub consists of Social Miners. Launched in 2020 before AVAX's TGE was completed.
