Bico Beltran: Aspiring History Teacher Harnessing Social Mining to Bridge Divides in the Philippines
In a more controversial society than ever, which often seems to lose the deepest values and the most important objectives, being a teacher is not just a job, but a mission, a vocation, a great responsibility.
In the last episode of the Social Miner of the Hour, we interviewed a young and wise man, as well as a Social Miner who aims to create lasting impacts on his future students’ lives. We are talking about Bico Beltran, Wallstreet on DAOVERSE platform, a passionate history enthusiast and aspiring teacher from the Philippines.
“Currently, I'm taking education classes to be a teacher soon," Beltran tells us. “Hopefully I can be a proud history teacher someday. I’d like to be the type of teacher that inspires students to succeed in all areas and to themselves. For me education is very important for children's growth and they should be the role model for them, to bring out their full potential and develop them to be productive members of society.”
From the very beginning of DAO Labs, which craves to revolutionise the 21st century jobs, Beltran has been an active Social Miner, working hard to overcome his limits, grow in the platform and think how to shape the minds of young learners in the future with Social Mining.
Born and raised in the culturally diverse Philippines, Bico is acutely aware of the challenges his country has faced in fostering unity and cooperation. Historical divisions fueled by religious beliefs and deep-rooted traditions have often hindered progress and social cohesion. Recognizing the need for change, Beltran has set his sights on becoming a history teacher who not only imparts knowledge but also inspires his students to embrace collaboration and understand one another.
“The Philippines is an archipelagic country - continues Beltran - where there are more than 182 ethnolinguistic groups called indigenous people. Throughout the history of our country, people tend not to cooperate because of religious beliefs and traditions (which persists today but rarely). That's why I want to use Social Mining as a means or a bridge to connect my people, share thoughts, and understand one another.”
Bico's vision extends far beyond a conventional history class. He seeks to unleash the full potential of his students and develop them into productive members of society. He believes that history, with its invaluable lessons and stories of triumphs and failures, can serve as a powerful tool for personal growth and community development. Bico envisions himself as a facilitator, empowering students to discover their own strengths, cultivate critical thinking, and foster a deep sense of empathy and respect for others.
To achieve this ambitious goal, our Social Miner of Hour recognizes the need for innovative approaches that can bridge the gaps between individuals, breaking down the barriers of the past, and promote meaningful connections. He sees it in Social Mining, innovative technology able to incentivize and reward individuals for their contributions, value and effort provided.
“Throughout history, religious beliefs have been the cause of conflict and misunderstanding, which is not good - says Beltran. That's why we all should be the ones to spread and promote peace. Especially for the teachers they must be the front line and educate future generations to be open minded and not discriminate against people based on their race, religion or perspective. Me, as a historian, I really want to change it in any way possible whether it may be small or big. Hopefully for the next 10 years I can be a proud history teacher and a good person that helped my countrymen.”
Thanks to people like Bico Beltran, Social Mining becomes more than just a concept; it becomes a catalyst for a more equitable future. As we witness the power of collaboration and the opportunities it unlocks, just by using Social Media handles, we are reminded that when individuals come together, driven by a common purpose, they have the ability to shape their own destiny and create a society where fairness, understanding, and opportunity abound.
